The Missing Door

One more week is under our belts at Wallpaper Acres and it is officially starting to come together!

On Saturday, we did our favorite thing...prep for paint! John got started while I grabbed coffee with a friend. When I showed up, he was halfway done covering the floor with plastic and paper in the kitchen and dining nook area. We were able to get the floor prepped and the fridge moved into another room. John also spent time patching drywall in the dining room, laundry room, and kitchen as we are in the final stages of prep prior to priming this area. John also discovered the one and only original recessed light! It was hidden under the pendant over the sink, the previous owners had converted it to a very "modern" pendant that is now in the trash! It was not really our style.

The doors were our project for Sunday, we were waiting for the hinges to arrive and they finally arrived late Saturday...we had the door knobs but you cannot hang the doors with just the knobs. When we got to the house on Sunday, we put all the hinges on the doors and then took all the doors to their correct frames upstairs and placed the downstairs ones out of the way for the time being. When we went upstairs to start installing the doors, we realized that we were missing a door...we were very confused and looked at all the remaining doors and could not locate the main door to what is going to be my office. It did not make sense! After exhausting all avenues and looking at all the doors to make sure we had not placed it somewhere, I had an epiphany...that door was in the dumpster because it had had a cat door cut into it and we had decided that we were not going to save it. So now the hunt is on for the same style of door as they were the "in" door back in 1991 and are not the popular ones that are placed in houses today. We are hoping that we stumble upon one on our runs to Habitat, fingers crossed!

Once we figured out the missing door situation, we started installing the doors in the correct frames and installing the door knobs. This was a 2-person job and we moved through the process pretty quickly. We are very happy with the hardware we chose and the house is looking more finished each weekend we spend there.

We also purchased and installed a fan in the main bedroom and John is a major fan (pun intended) of Hampton Bay appliances (please read the sarcasm in that sentence). He had a very frustrating time installing the fan as the mounting process was not the most sensible but he was able to get it mounted and it does not make a sound at all! It also completes the main bedroom and I absolutely love this space, take a look at how awesome it looks and the transformation that the main bedroom has had!

And a better view of the very easy to install fan...

A simpler weekend of projects but all in all, one step closer to being able to move in! Next weekend we are hoping to put some primer on the walls and start priming/painting the kitchen cabinets. (And for those that are curious, Beans did indeed help me write the blog again this weekend!)
