Cancelled Flights and Yellow Walls

If everything went to plan, that would be great...however that's usually not the case! This weekend, Mom and I were supposed to be in Ft. Lauderdale supporting the USWNT and watching them play Germany (for non-soccer folks...the top 2 teams in the world would be facing off on US soil so of course I was gonna go). However, Tropical Storm Nicole had other ideas and shut down all Florida airports on Wednesday/Thursday, thus our trip was cancelled. So now to find something to do with my time-off...I still took PTO on Friday and spent my day at the house, after my trip to REI for their member sale :)
To catch up from earlier in the week, we did have the missing master bedroom closet carpet installed so now we are fully carpeted and it looks great! That was all that we were able to get to this week at night.
Friday, I tackled painting the downstairs half bath and laundry room. John had primed it the previous weekend and it was ready to go! The color that we picked out for this space is Sherwin Williams Sunny Side Up...yes, a yellow. John's favorite color is yellow and he was really excited to be able to paint something in this house yellow. So we figured that the perfect space was an interior-walled bathroom that did not have any windows and could use a little lightening up. I didn't use any tape in this room and tested out my abilities to "cut in" and I am pretty pleased that I did not have any major issues/paint the ceiling yellow! Yellow naturally is a lighter base so it needed a couple coats of paint. 2.5 hours later and I was done with that space for the day.

(Remember that we are going to do beadboard on the bottom half so this is not just me being lazy!)
The yellow would not have been my first choice, but I will be honest and say that it is growing on me. It is not too big of a space and I definitely overestimated how much paint was needed as I bought 1 gallon to many...so now John will have yellow paint to paint a future project(s) that he does, I do not think that he will be too upset with that.
We also had a dumpster delivered on Friday to get rid of a bunch of trash and other items that have been accumulating over the project.
On Saturday, I finished caulking and wood filling nail holes the installed pieces of our accent trim in the formal living room. We are hopeful to get that project wrapped up next weekend. My dad also came over on Saturday and helped me load up the dumpster with trash, wood pieces, bathroom cabinets, drywall pieces, etc. He was a big help and helped me get that project done in half the time! Sunday, John and I loaded up the washer and dryer that came with the house and did not work along with the busted stove. We also loaded up the interior doors that had cat doors carved into them...Beans will have her own spots in Wallpaper Acres once we move in but she will not have any special cat doors!

The most fascinating part of the weekend takes us back to our first weekend of owning Wallpaper Acres. Remember when we had a leaky toilet that leaked into the basement? Well, as John was loading the leaky toilet into the dumpster, he discovered that the base of the tank had cracked at some point and the previous owners had used white duct tape to piece it back together...hence the leak when it was used for the first time when we moved in...gotta love it!
Next week, we have some exciting plans! We are hoping to finish up the accent trim in the formal living room and tile the downstairs half bath and laundry room! Fingers crossed that we get going and have a very productive upcoming weekend, stay tuned!
