Another day, another mural

Greetings and welcome into week number 3 of Wallpaper Acres Homeownership! If you haven't had the chance to check out our Instagram, go check it out @wallpaper.to.wow. John is in charge of updating there and he has some fun videos and pictures up!

Mid-week, John and I went and purchased our tiles for the downstairs half bath and laundry room. We went with a light grey 12x24 inch large format tile to go with the white beadboard and some-shade-of-yellow wall. That project is slowly in the works as we accumulate the supplies over the next couple of weekends. John was able to get the washer and dryer out (that came with the house) of the laundry room and finish removing the linoleum flooring.

Exciting news...we officially have the downstairs rid of all the wallpaper!!! That is a great accomplishment and honestly went a lot quicker than what we were anticipating. With that, we moved our efforts upstairs to the blue jean room.

The light blue wallpaper came off pretty easily and I was able to strip a whole wall in roughly 30-40 minutes. Under the light blue wallpaper was a purple and pink wall that was primed and painted correctly, hence why the wallpaper was easy to remove. At this point, I got curious to see what was under the blue jeans and as I was peeling it back, a new mural was revealed!

That's right, we officially have 3 murals in the house (Italy, the beach, and now add Tuscany).

We were absolutely baffled by this new treasure and quickly remembered why we always have zero expectations when removing the wallpaper. I am very curious as to whether or not there was a mural in the master bedroom prior to them painting it for resale value (yes, that is the one main room that is painted in the house). But do not be fooled, all the paint used was exterior paint purchased from Amazon in whatever colors they could get their hands on. We will be using the correct type of paint in a color that we like! We are saving the murals to remove all at once for one marathon day...why, it seems fun! We also discovered some fun doodles in sharpie on the purple/pink walls...isn't it lovely?!

Saturday included our weekly Habitat run and we turned up empty handed again. From there we went to the hardware store to look at beadboard and baseboards. We found the baseboards we are going to use and know what beadboard product we will be buying in the future. John also purchased his drywalling materials to start practicing/learning how to patch the walls where needed (and there is a lot of need).

Willow joined us at the house again on Saturday and is great at looking out the plethora of windows. She also is very good at sleeping on the hardwoods while we work away. I went to Italy and started on the dreadful paper in there. Italy wallpaper removal has be the most tedious yet until we got the steamer involved. It was hard to peel the top layer of paper off but once removed, the under layer peeled off super easily! Adam came over and joined in on the fun and we worked together to knock that room out (leaving the Italy mural).

John started learning how to repair drywall. He has watched a handful of videos, so he is pretty much a pro, right?! Low and behold, he has the hang of it and was moving through the process. He sands the wall down and uses a hand trowel and bag mix to get the task done. The other trick, spread he mortar much wider than you think in order to not leave a patch-looking spot once painted.

Sunday was the same, John on the drywall and I was on wallpaper removal. John is getting a hang of what to do and doing a pretty great job! This will take some time as there are many nail and anchor holes along with patches that need to be done from removing wallpaper downstairs. Upstairs, I was moving very quickly as the wallpaper in the beach room was coming of the wall super easily. The top layer came off in full width strips and the bottom layer came of after a couple soaks without even having to use the scrapper! Easiest room by far and now my favorite room of wallpaper removal. I mean, just look at how easy that wallpaper melts away from the wall!!!

Stay tuned for the removal of the 3 murals and then all the wallpaper will be banished from all of the living spaces! We are excited for that day!
